Mr. Jones orphanage
If you are wondering what the ‘orphanage’ stands for, look
around for the stuffed soft toys all over the place, also known as the Orphans
of Mr.Jones. ( As read on the website)
How would it be living your childhood memory all over again?
Having woken up in a huge massive doll house surrounded by cute soft toys and
wooden train tracks above your head.
Sounds like a dream, eh? That’s exactly what I came across
when I visited this place with my mom. A coffee shop and a patisserie housing a wide range of pastries right from
mouth-watering chocolate mud pie to Banana and caramel waffles. Before I even
get started on the extensive menu, the wooden doll house is a treat to your
eyes right from the time you enter.
Mr. Jones Orphanage is located in Thong Lo Soi 13 and on the
2nd level of Siam Centre shopping mall. I however visited the smaller orphanage
cake shop in Siam Centre. Constructed on
the 2nd floor of Siam Centre mall, it lays across its cake shop on either sides
of the walk way of the mall.
The interior of the place is very country-side, built with
the white ash-brown wood. It almost
looks like a world of amusement fitted together to make a cutesy coffee corner.
An eye-ball grabber for almost all passer-bys, it’s almost impossible to not
stop by.
Watch out for the low hanging toy train tracks – these tracks
sprawls across the café, over the tables, some of which have teddies
places over the tracks , while the other teddy bears are dangling from the
lamps suspended from the ceilings.
Coming to the desserts, have a sweet tooth you will complete
surrender yourself here!
The Choco mud pie being their signature dessert looks totally lip-smacking, it looks like as if Chocolate lava has bursted and has smeared all around the
ceramic bowl; keeping the top layer look as chocolatey and perfectly crafted and
spongy.
Be prepared for pancakes with maple syrup, banana stuffed
waffles with caramel syrup glazed on top. The quirky names on the Menu will surely
get your funny bone tickled, with names like Custard cows poo (another
signature desserts) naughty Girl’s Blondies,
Swirl your tongue round your lips, as you watch the
scrumptious desserts sitting on the counter! The dessert counter is like a
Dessert buffet which is piled on top of each other. Plenty of delightful looking
cake treats , all sliced into huge
chunks making it easier to order a piece or two of the same and covered
with huge round glass lid, makes it transparent enough to please your eyes and
take over your senses.
It’s pretty sad that when we spotted Mr. Jones, I had
already eaten tit bits shortly prior to my getting there, hence I did not
really eat eat anything, but I managed to grab a coffee. Though the coffee was
pretty decent, but the coffee mug was big-mouthed round ceramic mug served
alongside was a coconut cookie, which was delectable. I loved the mug! Ofcourse
it’s not difficult, but almost impossible to not get your hands on the dessert,
so I took away one Ferroro Choco cake, priced@ 110 Baht.
The pastry was extremely spongy filled with melted chocolate,
layered with pieces of Ferrero Rocher making the taste chocolaty taste burst in your mouth! Look out for the waffles, as
they looked lip-smacking to me.
Besides the wide range of desserts, the Menu also boasts Juices,
Shakes, hot chocolate and a wide range of Teas.
If you are intending to go to the Siam Brach of Mr.Jones,
let me also mention - the place is a wee-bit crammed up as it is built in rows
similar to that in a train compartment. So every table is small and you have to
squeeze yourself right from walking through the aisle in between the rows of
tables; to getting yourself inside to take your seat. And the rows are pretty
close to each other, so look around at other tables as they are so closely
placed, you might be interested to see what others are eating as well?
