Colonial Bistro Bangkok - Review!

It's been long since I have penned down any reviews about the restaurants I've visited recently .

Recently I was smitten by just a look of it, the colonial Bistro café, located in soi 5 in the Sathorn district of Bangkok , with its impeccable decor, which looked like a little cozy private French Bungalow from the outside.

Designed as per French aesthetics, the restaurant is a small chic and classy den, with white washed walls and white lacquered chairs & tables laid across.  The place is spread across a floor. The ground floor, being a small little cafe with 2 tables and half- rounded cozy rattan chairs. And then upstairs, on the first floor is the dining area, which looks very chic and sophisticated. It has a very nice fine-dine aura with a breath of fresh air.

That's where we sat! Ivory upholstered couch!

The tiny elements like the elegant chandelier hanging from the ceiling and the White cage resting on a tiny side table, just re-defined French Decor.  Facing the tables; were the giant-sized beveled mirrors on the walls.

Basically, these exquisite elements of French decor really make the place look stunning and appealing. Staying longer could only mean you want to take in a bit more of the ambiance.

Proceeding to the cuisine, which consisted of French and western type. To our dismay, the menu was very limited. We went with a mindset of finding various dishes from 2 extensive cuisines, but it hardly had about 5 dishes each per Cuisines. Moreover, it leaves vegetarians with very limited options. Service being a 4/5.

We ordered for one Khao Phad (veg fried rice) along with Pasta with Pesto sauce. Both the dishes were such big disappointments. With tapas-like quantity, and presentation being very decent, we thought probably we wouldn’t be compromising on the taste. But the Khao Phad itself lacked the main flavoring of the soy sauce and garlic. The pesto sauce in the pasta was way to dry and bland. I thank my stars, I did not try to pair it up with wine, or I would be sulking all the way! They did not have oregano, when asked for, plus it lacked the seasoning.

First-time I felt like not having pasta! If the phrase “never judge a book by its cover" is to be true, then this is it! We judged it, and we judged it completely wrong. If you want to enjoy a meal, never visit this place. But if you want to enjoy a good ambiance, sure go ahead and grab nothing more than a cup of coffee.
