Japanese Vegan Dining @Mr Genki's
Inquisitive to try ‘Mock Meat/Faux meat,' which is anything that is a substitute of meat but 100% pure veg in its form.
And some just gross out on the thought of Faux Meat….’What???
So this Mock meats mainly consists of ingredients like Tofu, Mushroom, Aubergine, gluten – wheat preparations and soy protein or food processed using soy dough churned out from Soy beans.
First of all I want to say it is lip-smacking. Faux-meat is chewy, succulent exactly the way your meat/chicken would taste; rather better!
A month ago;on a spree to find a different eatery, my hubby and I went out of the way. And foodies always need different, better and more varieties to tickle their taste-buds…
Mr Genki was this Japanese restaurant serving Mock/faux-meat; the pure vegetarian Japanese restaurant. The restaurant was basic, very simple and quaint. As we entered we had to take off our shoes and get into one of their slippers that felt nice…like at home!
So then we went ahead sat of one of the Japanese style dining which is called ‘on-floor dining’, To begin with, we called for Vegan Chicken Teriyaki – what I’ve heard they make it with boiled soya bean/chick pea along with Potato starch – soy sauce – sesame seeds etc etc
Then we had one of the mouth-watering Sushis. Cooked with sticky rice, avocado, aubergine and cucumber rolled in nori sheets and served with Wasabi sauce and soy sauce. The flavoring was killer, I could feel the trail of flavours on my mouth, some wasabi, some soy sauce and some vinegar.
I am really scared of Wasabi sauce, a little more and it can stir the daylights out of you!
The Main course with rice- miso soup etc
Pleasantly satisfying, it’s good for a Vegan and experimental night out, but not some place I would regularly visit!
